“This poignant, intimate, and hilarious memoir explores Shonda’s life before her Year of Yes—from her nerdy, book-loving childhood to her devotion to creating television characters who reflected the world she saw around her. The book chronicles her life after her Year of Yes had begun—when Shonda forced herself out of the house and onto the stage; when she learned to explore, empower, applaud, and love her truest self. Yes.” -Excerpt from Amazon Website.

First thought that comes to mind when I think of this book is…”So good”. One of my favorite reads of 2019 so far easily in the Top 3. There’s a reason Shonda Rhimes has so many hit shows, she is an amazing storyteller. That fact holds true in this unapologetic, honest and witty adventure of her year of yes that she shares with her readers. The book is not only entertaining to read but inspiring. Shonda Rhimes speaks her truth in a way that gives life to the words Marianna Williamson spoke in her poem, Our Greatest Fear :

“And as we let out own light shine,  we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Taking on her fears, stepping out of her comfort zone and  saying yes to herself. This a must read.

One of my favorite quotes from the book :

Happiness comes from living as you need to, as you want to. As your inner voice tells you to. Happiness comes from being who you actually are instead of who you think you are supposed to be. -Shonda Rhimes
